Window cleaning methods

Traditional window cleaning

The way of cleaning windows since windows first started needing cleaning. Traditional window cleaning is what most people think of when they think of a window cleaner.

In it's simplest form, the process involves a bucket of water and a mild detergent applied to the glass using a fluffy soap applicator. Once the detergent has been applied to the full area of glass, rubber held in a metal channel on a squeegee is then used to remove the soapy detergent and leave the window clean and dry. Lastly a cloth is then used to "detail" the edges of the glass, removing any residue from where the glass meets the frame.

Even though technology has moved on in the form of water-fed pole systems, we still employ traditional window cleaning on some residential properties and where we complete internal window cleans for our commercial clients.

Whilst the days of working at height from ladders are behind us, through the use of extension poles our team can still safely work using traditional window cleaning methods at heights up to 3 metres on large internal windows.

Water-fed pole window cleaning

These days, a more common approach to window cleaning comes in the form of the water-fed pole. At first glance this can simply look like brush on a long pole, but there's a little more to this style of window cleaning than that!

The water-fed pole method works by sending ultra-purified water stored in large capacity tanks in our vans through long hoses and an extendable carbon fibre poles to a specially designed brush head. Because this specially prepared water has zero dissolved solids it effectively easily connects with and removes all impurities on the glass surface.

After a thorough scrub of the window frame, sill and then glass followed and a top to bottom rinse with ultra-pure water, you'll usually find your newly cleaned windows are left wet to dry naturally. As the water used is filtered from all impurities, the glass will dry to a spotless finish.

Water-fed pole systems come in many shapes and sizes, with our custom built equipment capable of easily reaching and cleaning windows at heights of 10 metres and beyond, safely from ground level.

So which method is best for my home?

Whilst traditional window cleaning is a highly effective way to give your windows a gleaming shine, over 90% of our work is carried out using the water-fed pole method and ultra-purified water from our vehicle tanks.

As an all round window cleaning method, we believe this offers the best finish for the vast majority of our customers, allowing us to not only clean your window glass without the need for chemicals and leaving no residue, but also to bring frames and sills, especially standard uPVC frames up to gleaming finish.
